Event in Miyajima – February
Even though Miyajima island is off -season during February, some event will take place.
Come and enjoy the event that is held only once in the year!!!

Feb 3rd. Setubun/Fukumamemaki
place: Dai sho-in
time: 11am
Setubun literally means the devsion of the season.
So we have 4 Setubun for each seaon. But this February 3rd is very special.
We throw the fukumame (lucky beans) to spell away the evil.
At dai sho-in, Fuku-onna and Fuku-otoko will throw the beans.
They were the people who were born in the year of Dragon- the Zodiac of 2024.
It starts at 11am, but by that time Dai sho-in will be packed with people.
If you want to get Fukumame, you should be there much earlier than that time.
Feb. 3rd Hoshimaturi
place : Dai gan ji
time : 6:30 PM
Hoshimaturi is Buddhism event to drive away the evil and wish for long and healthy life.
At Dai gan ji, they will have special touch and make prayer in very special way.
Miyajima island will be really quiet after 5 PM.
You will experiance very different Miyajima from the day.
Feb 23rd. Ten cho-sai
place: Itukushima-shrine
time: 9AM
Ten cho sai is held to cerebrate the birthday of Emperor.
For his birthday, traditional dance is perfomed at the stage.
Since it is open to public, the shrine will be packed with people.
If you want to see the dance, be there very early.
